at TEO
Foil highlights use precisely placed foils to lift selected strands to a brighter tone, adding dimension and definition. At TEO Beauty Centre we plan placement to your natural growth pattern and desired boldness — from subtle babylights to full contrast.
Why Highlights?
Crisp Definition
Foil placement gives sharper, brighter lift than freehand painting.
Full Control
Section-by-section placement for exact placement of light.
Multi-Tone Depth
Combine multiple shades in one session for lived-in dimension.
Hair-Health Priority
Bond builders integrated into every lightening step.
Why is highlighting still the most popular lightening technique?
Highlighting has been one of the oldest professional hair colouring techniques since the 1960s, yet it has evolved considerably over time. Today, highlighting is no longer simply 'turning hair blonde' — it is the art of lightening specific strands in a controlled manner, creating a synchrony with the natural base colour to produce multi-dimensional visual depth. The foil is essential in keeping the lightener both contained and able to reach right to the root line. At TEO Beauty Centre, even the foil width varies strand by strand; 3 mm ultra-fine babylights and 15 mm chunky highlights can be used together within a single application.
The greatest strength of highlighting is its precision. Whilst balayage looks natural and free, highlights are defined, planned, and symmetrical. This makes it the ideal choice for guests with short hair, geometric sharp cuts, or those seeking 'controlled elegance' in a professional setting. It also offers those experiencing lightening for the first time the freedom to choose between 'subtle brightness' and 'full contrast'.
The most important detail to be aware of with highlights is tonal maintenance. Over time, lightened strands can shift to a yellow, orange, or copper tone. At TEO Beauty Centre, a personalised toner is applied at the end of every highlight appointment — locking in the target shade, whether that is a cool blonde, ash platinum, or warm honey. With a salon toner refresh every 4–6 weeks and a weekly purple shampoo, the tone can be maintained at its original vibrancy for up to 8–10 weeks.
"A highlight is not merely a colour — it is a precise art form that governs the three-dimensional visual depth of your hair."

How to keep your highlights vibrant for 8–10 weeks
What to Do
- Use a purple shampoo 1–2 times per week to neutralise yellow tones.
- Strengthen the hair bonds once a month with Olaplex No.3.
- Never use a blow-dryer or curling iron without a heat-protectant spray.
- Visit the salon for a root touch-up every 6–8 weeks.
- Use a UV-filter spray during summer months.
What to Avoid
- Sulphate- and salt-based shampoos strip the lightener from the hair.
- Chlorine and sea water shift the tone towards green.
- Do not wash your hair for the first 72 hours — allow the tone to set.
- Do not attempt to highlight at home with box dye; it causes patchy results.
- Excessively hot showers rapidly strip moisture and pigment.

Highlights FAQ
How often should I refresh highlights?
Every 6 to 8 weeks depending on grow-out and desired brightness.
What is the difference between highlights and balayage?
Highlights use foils for crisp lift from the root. Balayage is a painted, softer, root-shadow finish.
Do highlights damage the hair?
Lightening stresses the strand, but Olaplex or K18 in every session preserves internal bonds.
Can I do highlights on very dark hair?
Yes. Lifting to the target level may take two sessions if you want a dramatic contrast.
Which highlight variations do you offer?
Babylights, classic highlights, chunky highlights, contour highlights and money-piece — chosen with your stylist during consultation.
How should I care for highlighted hair?
Sulphate-free shampoo, purple toning shampoo weekly, deep conditioning and thermal protection before heat styling.
