From Chemicals to Nature

Why is organic colour becoming a necessity rather than a choice?

PPD (para-phenylenediamine), found in conventional hair dyes, is listed as a "potential sensitiser" by the European Cosmetics Directive. Repeated applications over the years can lead to allergic dermatitis at the hair roots, itching of the scalp and, over time, permanent skin sensitivity. Organic dyes replace PPD with PTD (para-toluenediamine sulphate) or entirely plant-based indigo/lawsone pigments — ingredients that reduce the risk of allergic reaction by up to 90%.

At TEO Beauty Centre, every organic colour application begins with a complimentary patch test. A drop of colour is applied behind the ear and monitored for 48 hours; only once there is no redness or itching does the application proceed. This step provides a personalised layer of assurance, even with an organic product. We also have a dedicated protocol for expectant and nursing guests — applied after the first trimester and with the approval of a GP.

Organic colour does far more than simply avoid harsh chemicals; every session becomes a treatment session in its own right. The Organic Colour Systems formula we use contains argan oil, jojoba, aloe vera and vitamin E. During the processing time, the hair fibre does not swell — on the contrary, it is nourished. After the application, your hair shines as though it has been both coloured and conditioned. The "dryness" or "dullness" seen after conventional colour does not occur with an organic application.

"Organic colour is not just about colour — it is a spa session for the hair."

  • "It's only for pregnant women" is wrong; it is the healthier choice for everyone.

Frequently Asked

Organic Hair Colour FAQ

Does organic colour cover greys as well as classic dye?

Yes. The natural range covers 100% of greys with a single application, though warm tones may need a booster.

How long does organic colour last?

5 to 6 weeks — comparable to classic colour, with a softer fade.

Can I use it during pregnancy?

Yes, from the second trimester with your obstetrician's approval.

Is it suitable for allergy-prone skin?

Yes. A patch test 48 hours before is standard for all first-time guests.

Are the vivid fashion colours natural?

Vivid pastels and fashion shades still need synthetic pigment; only classic and natural tones exist in fully botanical form.

Which brands do you use?

Organic Colour Systems, Aveda Botanical, Herbatint and O&M — depending on your desired shade and scalp needs.
